Testing Schedule

Testing Schedule

Spring standardized testing season is approaching, and we want to ensure you have all the information you need to support your child during this important time. The testing window runs from April 20 through June 5.

What Tests Will Students Take?
Your child will participate in state-required assessments that measure their academic progress and help our school understand how well we're supporting student learning:

  • WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science): Only 8th grade students take this assessment, which tests their understanding of science concepts and practices aligned with state standards. If your child is not in 8th grade, they will not take the WCAS.
  • SBA English Language Arts (ELA): This assessment includes two parts—the Performance Task (PT), which asks students to apply their reading and writing skills to real-world scenarios, and the Computer Adaptive Test (CAT), which adjusts question difficulty based on student responses.
  • SBA Mathematics: Like the ELA assessment, this includes both a Performance Task (PT) where students solve complex, multi-step problems, and a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) that adapts to each student's skill level.

Testing Schedule at a Glance
The testing calendar is carefully structured to give students adequate time while minimizing disruption to regular instruction:

  • April 28-30: WCAS testing (8th grade only)
  • May 5-7: WCAS makeups (8th grade only)
  • May 12-13: ELA Performance Test
  • May 14: ELA Computer Adaptive Test
  • May 19: Math Computer Adaptive Test
  • May 20: Math Performance Test
  • May 21-June 4: Extended makeup windows for all assessments
  • May 25: Memorial Day (no school)
  • June 5: SBA/WCAS testing window closes (early release day)

How to Support Your Child
Your support at home can make a significant difference in how your child approaches testing:

  • Prioritize rest and routine: Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep during testing weeks, maintains regular bedtime and morning routines, and eats a healthy breakfast each day.
  • Reduce test anxiety: Remind your child that these tests are just one measure of their learning, encourage them to do their best without creating pressure, and emphasize that it's okay not to know every answer.
  • Ensure attendance: Make every effort to have your child at school on their scheduled testing days, as makeups can be disruptive to their regular learning time, though makeup opportunities are available if your child is ill or has an unavoidable absence.
